The Western New York Quarter Horse Club extends condolences to our Director Amy Hanssen-Keyes and her family on the death of Amy’s father, Robert Hanssen, on Monday, April 28, 2008.  Bob died at the Erie County Medical Center.  According to the Niagara Gazette, Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1943 and was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.  He married Bonnie Bowerman on August 22, 1964 in Lockport at the First Presbyterian Church.  Bob was an avid hunter and enjoyed vegetable gardening.  He and his wife Bonnie owned and operated Colonial Ridge Stables in Middleport for 20 years.  Bob then worked for the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for 17 years as a supervisor, winning many awards.  Bob and Bonnie Hanssen operated “Bonnie’s Delights” catering and have been fixtures at many Quarter Horse Shows over the years.  Those members who showed at the Chemung County Fairgrounds in Elmira, NY over the past years will remember Bob cooking at the grill, with Bonnie’s smiling face at the front counter!
