The Western New York Quarter Horse Club extends condolences to our Director
Amy Hanssen-Keyes and her family on the death of Amy’s father, Robert Hanssen,
on Monday, April 28, 2008. Bob died at the
Erie
County
Medical
Center. According to the
Niagara Gazette, Bob was born in
Brooklyn,
NY in 1943 and was a graduate of the Culinary
Institute of America in
Hyde Park,
NY. He married Bonnie Bowerman
on August 22, 1964 in
Lockport at the First Presbyterian
Church. Bob was an avid hunter and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He and his
wife Bonnie owned and operated Colonial Ridge Stables in Middleport for 20
years. Bob then worked for the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets for
17 years as a supervisor, winning many awards. Bob and Bonnie Hanssen
operated “Bonnie’s Delights” catering and have been fixtures at many Quarter
Horse Shows over the years. Those members who showed at the Chemung County
Fairgrounds in
Elmira,
NY over the past years will
remember Bob cooking at the grill, with Bonnie’s smiling face at the front
counter!
Funeral services were held on Wednesday April 30 at the
Zion
Lutheran
Church in Gasport. In
lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to
Zion
Lutheran
Church,
4447 Central Avenue,
Gasport,
NY.
